Chiedi Informazioni Alla Cassa

Hi all! Sorry for the lack of posts, but you all know why. I've just been *trapped* in Rome (and now Florence), and was Completely Unable to find a computer. (I know you all feel really badly for me. Baby!Bro is not so sympathetic - I got this email today: im super jealous that ur traveling all over europe. the most boring part of ur day is looking outside and seeing the wonders of europe. the most exciting part of my day is looking outside and pretending the pigeons are talking. i hate u. Wretched brother. Hee.)
Italy is rocking solid, although the fact that I, aha, don't speak Italian is becoming a little unnerving. Erik and I were lost for three hours in our town in Rome (Total F for location - it was an hour away from the actual city! But the gorgeousness of the B&B just made up for the train ride every morning.) and had absolutely no way of communicating our problem to any of the very helpful people we encountered.
"Scuzi," we'd say, pointing at our totally useless directions. "Via Achille Maori?"
"Aha!!" the stranger would reply, looking very excited. "Il porta di cibo incontra il museo triste vede un un ma esso!" He would then wave to other people walking by, and babble something else. "le ore per il mulino a vento di minuti l'amo e la lampada e tuttavia parlo in gergo traduce il tennis di pane di casa!!!" Soon we had seven or eight villagers clustered around us, speaking in rapid Italian as though we'd understand through volume alone, all pointing in different directions, determined that, by God, we would get what they were saying or they'd die trying.
But eventually it was all figured out.
Now I'm off to explore the rest of Florence - this morning we walked into a church because our guidebook said it had pretty murals. It neglected to add that the altar was a clear glass case containing the mummified body of St. Antonin Pierozzi, dressed in full archbishop regalia. This is an odd city. We likes it.
